This is it, we're heading out of the country. Au revoir l'Angleterre et bonjour France. We're going to cross the Channel by Eurotunnel, or le shuttle as the French say. Basically it's a big train you drive on to and thirty minutes later you're in a foreign country. It must be the most convenient way to travel. If only getting to all countries was as simple.
Staying at a Holiday Inn in Calais tonight, i've spent the full (thirty minute) crossing thumbing through a French phrase book so i'm feeling confident that when we get to the hotel, the lingo will flow freely off my tongue. Bonjour, J'ai reserve pour ce soir, this will be easy.
Luckily the receptionist spoke English. I need more practice.
The next culture shock came when we find there's nothing open (No 24 hour Tesco's over here) and it's Sunday so we have no choice but to eat in the hotel. Which turns out to be very nice, if not a little pricey and heavy on the cheese.
Too much cheese. Nightmares tonight.
